Tubing the Yampa River

Tubing the Yampa is always a good time. Last weekend I took the kids and a few of their friends. We had a lot of laughs, oh ya the water is cold but it sure is refreshing on these late July hot days. Gee, I almost forgot, you don't want to relax to hard as there are plenty of little rapids remaining this time of year. I experienced one as I rocked over backwards and promptly got dumped face first into the water. The river is really nice with plenty of sandy beach areas. The kids liked to pull over and take a break from tubing and swim a bit or sit on the shore, lie in the sun… By the way, the prime tubing area of the Yampa passes right through downtown Steamboat. Afterwards we walked over to the ice-cream store and had a treat. It was good day right here in downtown Steamboat.

Fourth of July in Steamboat 2010

The fourth is always an exciting time in Steamboat. The Steamboat parade was well attended and featuring a variety of float themes from political to just plain old fun. I really enjoy seeing all the horses and western heritage costumes, the kids had a great time. The clouds did roll in for the evening events and it rained a bit. I still enjoyed the rodeo but folks were getting wet. The fireworks show was full of booming and big displays with a little rain mixed in as well. It was definitely a together evening with kids and families sharing blankets and umbrellas, the rain was really not too bad.

June is beautiful in Steamboat Springs

I cannot think of a better place to be in June then Steamboat. The valley is a lush green, the rivers are full and the wildlife is showing us new faces. There is so much to do this time of year. Some of my favorite things to do are coming up in July like the 30th Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo & 36th Annual Art in the Park. Another really fun activity is the upcoming Steamboat All Arts Festival. You will be amazed at the artistic talent there is in Steamboat. If you want to get into the beautiful backcountry surrounding Steamboat here is some information about hiking and if you prefer to mountain bike try this link.
